Why this fits your profile
Most jarred salsas have added sugar, which surprises a lot of patients since it doesn't taste sweet — the acidity masks it. This version is just tomato, chile, and lime, so it adds real flavor to a taco bowl or fajita plate without a hidden carb source you didn't account for.
Ingredients
- 1 can (14 oz) fire-roasted diced tomatoes
- ¼ white onion, roughly chopped
- 1 clove garlic
- 1 jalapeño, seeded
- Juice of 1 lime
- ¼ cup fresh cilantro
- Salt, to taste
Directions
Step 1
Add all ingredients to a blender or food processor.
Step 2
Pulse to desired texture — a few short pulses for chunky, longer for smooth.
Step 3
Taste and adjust salt and lime.
Smart swaps
- Swap the canned tomatoes for 1 lb tomatillos, husked and simmered 5 minutes until soft, then blend with the same aromatics
- Add ½ avocado for a creamier verde
- Roast the onion, garlic, and jalapeño first for a deeper flavor
